Dental Study app for iPhone and iPad

The Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) Dental Study App is the first Researchkit enabled oral health survey. Our aim is to use the data from this study to gain insight into the initiators of dental anxiety in adult patients when visiting the dentist. The survey will ask participants about previous dental experiences, current oral health habits, and frequency of routine dental visits.

In this study, we use questions correlating to basic dental office experiences and compare how those experiences may attribute to anxiety. We ultimately hope that this survey app will be scalable and provide an evolving framework to develop and adopt updated strategies to alleviate dental fear and anxiety in the clinical setting.

In addition to the wealth of information we aim to collect from the survey questions, we also hope to demonstrate Apple ResearchKit based applications as viable alternatives to other web-based and paper forms of survey data collection in oral health research.
